Commercial Network & Structured Cabling in Baton Rouge

Copper data cabling, racks and cable management for offices, warehouses and industrial sites across Baton Rouge and the Gulf South.

Every phone, computer, camera and access reader in your building depends on the cabling behind the walls. When that cabling is rushed, unlabeled or out of date, you feel it as slow connections, dropped devices and long troubleshooting calls. SmartComm designs and installs structured cabling that's organized, documented and built to last.

What we install

  • Cat6 and Cat6A data cabling to workstations, wireless access points, cameras and equipment
  • Telecom rooms and network closets: racks, patch panels, vertical and horizontal cable management
  • Pathways: ladder rack, J-hooks, conduit and cable tray
  • Labeling and as-built documentation so your IT team knows where every cable goes
  • Moves, adds and changes, and clean-ups of existing closets

How a project runs

  1. Walkthrough. We look at the space, the pathways and what needs to connect.
  2. Design. Drop counts, cable routes and rack layout, coordinated with your IT provider or general contractor.
  3. Install. Clean, dressed cable runs that follow industry standards.
  4. Test and document. Every cable is tested, and you get the results.
  5. Hand-off. Labeled panels and documentation your team can use.

Frequently asked questions

Should my office use Cat6 or Cat6A cabling?

Cat6 handles most office networks today. Cat6A supports higher speeds over longer runs and is a good choice for wireless access points and buildings you plan to stay in for many years. We'll recommend the right one during the walkthrough.

What is structured cabling?

Structured cabling is an organized system of cables, patch panels and racks that connects every device in a building back to a central network room. It's easier to manage, expand and troubleshoot than cable run point to point.

Do you work with general contractors on new construction?

Yes. General contractors are one of our main sources of work. We coordinate with the build schedule and other trades from rough-in through final testing.

Can you clean up an existing network closet?

Yes. We re-dress and label existing cabling, replace damaged patch cords and reorganize racks so your closet is easier to manage.

Do you test the cabling after installation?

Yes. Every cable is tested before hand-off, and you receive the results with your documentation.
